CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
God of all mercy and consolation, come to the aid of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST LESSON (Be seated) Jeremiah 15:15-21
O Lord, you know;
remember me and visit me,
and take vengeance for me on my persecutors.
In your forbearance take me not away;
know that for your sake I bear reproach.
Your words were found, and I ate them,
and your words became to me a joy
and the delight of my heart,
for I am called by your name,
O Lord, God of hosts.
I did not sit in the company of revelers,
nor did I rejoice;
I sat alone, because your hand was upon me,
for you had filled me with indignation.
Why is my pain unceasing,
my wound incurable,
refusing to be healed?
Will you be to me like a deceitful brook,
like waters that fail?
Therefore thus says the Lord:
“If you return, I will restore you,
and you shall stand before me.
If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless,

SECOND LESSON Romans 12:9-21
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be conceited. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Glory to You, O Lord.
From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Almighty God, ever righteous and faithful, you judge the living and the dead, and you carry out vengeance against those who persecute your people. When enemies rise against us, grant us endurance to bear our crosses as Christ bore His for us, and remind us of the redemption that awaits all who turn to you in faith. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Heavenly Father, grant to Your Church pastors and workers who say with Jeremiah, “Hear the Word of the Lord,” and who faithfully proclaim that Word to us. Strengthen all who serve in your mission to the world, and care for their families according to your love and mercy. Lord in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Holy Spirit, bless our congregation and its work, that we would grow in faith and number and be sustained in this time of change. And guide the efforts of our Sunday School and Preschool, that parents and children would be blessed through engagement with your Word, and enrollment would increase. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Gracious Lord, look with favor on the households of this congregation, and grant that they may live in love that issues from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
O Lord, our God, turn the eyes of all who make, execute, and judge our laws to You, that they may receive wisdom and strength to faithfully carry out their duties. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Almighty Father, have mercy on all who are sick or suffering in any way, especially those who have requested our prayers and those we name in our hearts at this time… Grant that they may have relief from pain and be restored to good health, and give them the courage to endure their crosses and tribulations. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Loving Lord, until Your Son returns in glory, He gives us His body and blood in Holy Communion to sustain us. Grant that all who receive this gift today may receive it in faith, trusting that it is given for the forgiveness of their sins and life everlasting. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
All these things and whatever else You know that we need, grant us, Father, for the sake of Him who died and rose again and now lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God forever. Amen.
